Called Paul today and discussed the ARP. He is such an easy person to talk to. As I write this, I am drawing some connections to the Knowldege Managment Book after listening to Paul. Where do you go to get knowledge and experience on Action Research? Paul Sparks.

"Just how the hell do I do this Paul?..." and he had answers and advice.

So I immediately came here to reflect and Blog like I am supposed to. Note to self: pat on back for Blogging.

I am going to work with my CoP and select a maximum of 6-7 students to filter them into my CoP- our diving community. I will interview them and discuss interests- then interview members of the CoP to create a form of internship.

The concept is that by doing this we create a cycle of MDT students who can get access to the CoP. We essentially do as the scouts do like Paul said. What we say is something like- "hey we are going to get you access to this and this training or cool opportunity, but you must share the love later with other newbies."

Concerns:

How to measure and collect Data on job success.
Evaluate a return on this for SBCC- The WSCH/FTE headcount syndrome. Work the project with Admin.
Dont make the students a strain on the Community. They have to fit in.

Identify the resources.

Review the resources: We must create a resource list. See if anyone has doen this before. An annotated list of resources is needed. Like a Bibliography and reference listed.

In the ARP I follow the students and then report.

In essence:

Identify the CoP diversity. (resources)
Hand pick the students to study.
Encourage them
Lots of Blogging/Docucumenting/Interviewing
Students get into the CoP
We document and measure their activities
Students then menot other students and newbies into the CoP
That becomes the benefit for my CoP

Paul advised its big- reign it in, he will allow me to scale off.
He also advised to read Larson on Making Conversation to prep for the people challenges.
Productive Phone call.

Paul and his son are interested in taking SCUBA cert. class. Note to self: call Gordy Boivin, Bill Lidyoff or George Bodinar who are in their area. They live in So. Orange County.

My ARP will center around local diving community, the lessons I learned esp. (1994-96) and how it evolves, rejuvinates and is accessed. I just am not sure exactly how.

Paul will lead me to the answer when I call him.
